The fact that I cannot be arsed to answer should instruct you.  The worst are brek meetings (see me supra) and events with spouses.  Particularly the latter.

Never have to do plus one events (thank god).  They joys of not being a partner.  Breakfast meetings suck, but are not as complete a waste of time as lunchtime meetings, where people bang on at length, just because they can and it's not cutting into their chargeable hours.  fookers.

networking events with clients - I am the client, so never, except for an occassional lunch or so to catch up with my external counsel /panel firms

obligatory dinners with colleagues/bosses - Four times a year or so

work after 7pm - occassionally

work on weekends - occassionally

presentations to groups - 4 times a year but if you add teaching than about 15 times a year

meeting where you have to fight your corner hard - this is quite normal

representing your organisation at a conference or other event 10 times a year

stay away from home overnight - 12-15 nights a year

cancel social plans at the last minute for work - hardly ever

networking events with clients - never

obligatory dinners with colleagues/bosses - sometimes, about monthly including some less formal ones

work after 7pm - almost never and mostly just when I've been procrastinating over something

work on weekends - almost never and mostly just when I've been procrastinating over something

meeting where you have to fight your corner hard - rarely

representing your organisation at a conference or other event - annually

stay away from home overnight - only if I want to

cancel social plans at the last minute for work - never

the traditional "allnighter" on a deal - never in the actual sense, but I've had a few nights (over a few years) of sub-6 hours out of the office which lots of people seemed to used to think amounted to an all nighter

I don't understand how I, a painfully socially uncomfortable person (I mean I enjoy people but in a work context it's wretched), seem to have ended up with a much worse job than most people for this sort of thing.

And it doesn't even pay well!

In my next life I want to be an amoeba.

bailey - I thought of u last night while watching Defending the Guilty. There was a bit where they started to enumerate the accused's previous offences to the jury and I was surprised because I didn't think that was allowed (but then wondered if it was allowed because her defence agent had cross-examined the complaining witness about her own criminal record?)

anyway apolz for the digression
