A friend of mine works in HR at a well known British asset manager. For the graduate intake they had a maths test, but the problem was that none of the women were getting through the test, so they scrapped the test and now they have loads more women on the grad scheme.
i think this is a great idea. Its an easy way of attracting more valuable female talent and diversifying the type of employees which will undoubtedly make the company more successful.

The scariest thing is I can actually picture the wide grin on your face (always wanted to say you have such lovely teeth, I really need to get mine done) as you typed this.
Naughty bastard!

Math skill is overrated. There's software programmes for doing all that sort of stuff.

Assuming this is true (which it isn't) the one likely very relevant unknown factor here is how the candidates were selected to take the test in the first place, and how one woman might expect to be selected over another to take the test.

Its quite funny. We just hired someone, £400k a year basic. Looked at her LinkedIn profile and see she's marginally more qualified than me. So i think, errr, wtf? Also discover no direct reports, and no real responsibility (again, from what i can see).
Anyway, it turns out that when my boss (woman, feckin good) was offered the job she discovered that they were only looking for female candidates so she told them to go fvck themselves

Can’t be a very attractive employer to get such weak candidates
uni girlfriend was offered places by loads of asset managers . Mostly as when they asked how she could be so confident that she’d get a first in maths she told them that she’d got so many marks in part 1 finals she simply had to turn up to part 2 finals to get a first.
On her first day she pointed out the flaws in the CAPM to the grad scheme tutor. Having derived them from first principles whilst listening to the training

Is the maths test actually correlated with job performance? If not, who cares?
