Helen Mirren on Cinemas

She was talking at CinemaCon yesterday and told the audience about the wonders of going to the cinema and the relaxation of seeing a film in a cinema.  She's obviously only goes to premiers these days where you don't have to deal with the people who wander in late, the person behind you slurping their drink at a quiet moment in the film and the teenagers in the row in front using their phones.

I like cups of tea/glass of wine/going for a pee/cuddling the dog during films so prefer to watch at home where I can pause the film and these amenities are in closer proximity.

Last time I went to the cinema I found they'd replaced all the seats with massive recliners. It was like flying business, but with even more space.

Except for the fact that when I came out after two hours, I was still in Basingstoke.

And your massive recliner has several unidentified stains and bits of popcorn stuck in the mechanism.

Anyone tried the 4D cinemas where your seat moves and vibrates and you get sprayed with water if it's raining in the film?

I take it one wouldn't want to watch Les Miserables on 4D then?

I haven't been to the cinema for a while. Partly down to not being enthused about what is playing, the cost of the whole ticket and parking involved and other people being awful.

I've recently discovered  a desperately trendy café that does cult movie nights near me (combined with also being schnitzel night in the café) so I might give them a try.

Fair point on the cost. My married friends point out that by the time they've paid for two cinema tickets, something to eat and sorted out childcare and the like they might as well spend the money on a meal in a decent restaurant
