So a mate of mine has received a call from a headhunter, who refused to divulge who the client was , but he tells me it became obvious really quickly. When he asked what the job entailed he was told "anything and everything, tax, regulation, licencing,, employment, contracts, M&A, etc, etc. Do Lawyers like this actually exist.? He laughed and said no thanks it sounds like they are trying to save money by employing and expecting someone to do everything.

I have briefly met Barry Hearns son, and he is so up himself it is untrue in addition he is far from the brightest. I can think of little worse than having to report to the Hearns, who among other things are considered to have dubious business practices.

Ducks my friend who was approached, is 8 years PQE , working out of a regional office of a national firm, where he is a managing associate. I have no idea how much he earns but probably 80k.
I imagine one would be ran ragged working for him. There was lots of travel between Essex and Bristol, and no relocation package or housing allowance.
Ducks is that about the going rate for a GC in a role like this, I thought it would be double at least?

No relocation package, etc, etc. Apparently they outsource all their legal work with an average spend of circa 600k he was told. So I suspect he would be asked to do most/all that work himself, so they could save money. He also said he would consider it if he could recruit, and was told " growing the team would be reviwed in a few years" fvck that

3 ducks they outsource all their legal work, but want to bring it in house, hence the position. He was amenable to it, if he could have an assistant or two.

Fair does Hargreaves. I just assumed being a GC for a company operating with an international footprint , with that t/o would be more. And then of course there is the danger money , one should get working for Hearn. I imagine he fires people at will, without a second thought for employment laws.
See his sacking of full time referee Michela Tab, who he sacked for not attending a snooker awards ceremony . She got paid a fortune in compensation.

considering the bonus is only 10%, I think it's a £150,000 basic job. 20 days holiday is a disgrace!

duceman, and that bonus is performance related, no doubt to be decided by Mr Hearn. So is this a 150k job you reckon.
I know its very different but one of my old mans best mates who he has known from Uni was GC at Barclays for about a decade. Apparently he was on £1MM plus benefits and bonus, which included a driver.

Given that the Statutory minimum is 28 days that will be 20 days plus bank hols which is pretty much normal in 90%+ of jobs.

20 days in professional services is not normal, wibble, it is stingy and tight beyond belief.
Wang, I love snooker massively, have followed it for ever, and played a fair bit at club level. A previous employer, used to sponsor a couple of top players, one of who was in the top 16 for years. So got plenty of tickets, to see various tournaments including Thailand and China
Wang the position is not "open" it is being handled by an executive search agency

yes wibble you are correct it is not a professional services business, but it is a global sports promotion business/sports agent/regulator owner of global sports, in a company with a global footprint that is awash with cash and profile.
I don't think anyone thinks 20 days holidays is normal for a lawyer who is a GC, or indeed anyone for that matter.
