but what kind of hmong do u have to be to attempt to ski down everest? I mean all skiers are knobs, clearly, but that it quite literallytaking it to a whole other level
Not all eg Canadian skiers aren’t Knobs They are just really really good at it. It’s the British that raised skiing ( at which most are fairly crap) and apres ski to the heights of Knob.
Well it's not my job so never, but those guys are paid extortionate sums (by reference locally) to risk their lives carrying people up the mountain and sometimes down the mountain too.
In the death toll this year there are some sherpas who've died for fat Western tourists in circumstances which are, in my opinion, more noteworthy than this.
I attended a talk at RGS by Norgay’s son. He was very interesting. His advice was “ Be great and make others great”. I met a guy in a chalet in a ski trip who was a complete arrogant d***. He had booked an Everest trip for the following week. Fortunately he severely damaged his arm skiing very drunk and had to cancel.

No-one gets carried up Everest. That would be a fiction put about by chippy morons.

There are no fat Western tourists climbing Everest. You can't get anywhere near the summit of Everest without being extremely fit and having material climbing experience
Never get people who whine about the death rate on mountains. Mountaineers accept these risks with their eyes open, its largely a matter of luck. People die all the time even on low mountains, you just need a rock to come away higher up, you're in the wrong place, and that's it. The death rate on K2 is about 1 in 5 of all those who summit (though that's taking into account historical deaths, the rate would be better today). That seems utterly crazy on paper but of course there are plenty of people happy to accept those odds.
I mean, every death is a tragedy to the persons friends and loved-ones, but people don't just walk past bodies up there because they are callous, its because everyone's bought into the same deal and accepted the same risk, you pay your money and take your chances.
I dunno quite how to explain it, I guess its about what your passions are and how that affects the equation. I can't look at a hill without wanting to climb it, and was exactly the same from my earliest memories as a child. I mean literally every hill, cliff or mountain I see. Sadly I have other passions as well, I'd probably be a lot happier (or dead) if climbing was my only one.
Ledge obv.

Strong disagree. Canadian skiiers are only made to look less twotty because of all the snowborers
There's been some terrible fooking about on Mount Everest this year. Lots of stolen oxygen tanks and people walking past dieing casualties again.
I think they are close to the record number of dead people left behind.
More died this year than in 1996 which was a catastrophe.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, but when did you last carry a human being down a massive mountain on your back in a foam yoga mat?
me, not yet.
Time for another Sherpa strike to shut it down. My take away from that is the amount of rubbish up there.

Lots of posh people on a dangerous mountains
A few poor people saving them
This guy deserves 100k from each climber this year
Lets stop abusing the working classes
And also heh at Amiatory being a Tory about it
What a cock
There are a lot of working class climbers who’ve saved up for decades to die on a mountain.
They are often exploited too, Sails.
I wasn’t talking about the Sherpas.
Working classes are always exploited
Being forced to save up and go on some death hike because society tells you is abuse
That's one helluva rucksack.
