Elon Musk “asks staff to choose by Thursday between being ‘hardcore’ and working intense, long hours, or losing their jobs.” How would you respond to such a message?

I’d say “hmm, I’ll need to think on that for a while”.

I find Musk refreshing. The CEO who dominates and succeeds without all the soft bullshit that passes for leadership these days. OK he may be Aspergian but even better. I’d willingly join a business as ruthless as he seems to be making Twitter. In fact I might.

lol @ his dinosaur views and say “good luck with gen z m7, they just won’t have it”

but if that’s the approach he wants 2 take then fine by me. his money, his business

Depending on what jurisdiction I was in I might well be having a chat with an employment lawyer I think.  I'd probably be seriously considering whether I needed to flag to them that my mental health was being put at risk by the toxic environment their most senior leadership seemed to be deliberately creating.

Presumably he gets away with it now whilst there  are big redundancies in other tech companies. People then walk when the market turns.

danger is the really good, in demand people go to another better paying job now.

if it was me, I’d work 5% harder and wait to be managed out. I’d be interested to see how this plays out in the Twitter Paris or Berlin/Munich offices

OTTH, the opportunity to work closely with Musk would probably be worth a few sacrifices, especially if the person didn’t have children or other pressing needs to spend much time at home.

It is not right to excuse Musk’s arseholeism by reference to his autism.  Neurodiversity presents in all sorts of ways, but it never causes someone to act like this unless their character has a predisposition to unmitigated twottery.

I suspect that his conduct is less attributable to any medical diagnosis and more a result of the corrupting effect of power on a deeply insecure man.

wait to get "managed out" in the US means getting the sack with no notice, right?

He's wanting people to work twice (+) as hard for the same pay.  I think I'd take the 3 months and look for a new job.  There'd be no time to job-hunt and interview whilst working all hours.

Different deal though at law firms. If I went to work for a US firm, I’d expect long hours and great pay. If I was at another firm with normal hours and average pay, not sure many would stick around for 100hr weeks

This is the idiotic opposite to managing out the dross. By making the workplace hostile the only people you are immediately forcing out are the people with other options, who will tend to be your better workers. Those with fewer options will have to stay and work through gritted teeth.

Jeff Bezos, who’s also a dick, said once that he’d like Amazon’s workplace culture to be friendly and intense, but if he had to choose one, he’d choose intense.

At Lazcorp, I have said the same except that I’d choose friendly.

Oh Laz hey Laz that’s why he’s one of the world’s richest men and you’re not. No it isn’t fgs

I suppose I’ve created an atmosphere where I’m a friend first and a boss second. Probably an entertainer third...

Heh @ “it’s over”. Pipe down chimpy. Infrastructure teams are a dime a dozen with all these tech lay-offs and twitter isn’t exactly the most complex communication apparatus out there. If Donald Trump can start one overnight, then how hard can it be to run.

Id go on twitter with a few woop-yeahs about what a great job hes doing and how its great to see the soft culture kicked up the butt and how reenergised I am - even though I was already working damn hard!

Say something musk-esque to get more followers

Woop yeahs

Tag the Elon himself

Woop yeah woop yeah

invent someone i sacked!

YOU ARE FIRES WOKEY!

WOOP- YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*does 10% less work*
*asks for a pay rise when everyone else has fooked off*

Guess we’ll see won’t we.

+1 for not quit but then basically phone it in totally until you get managed out. Could get away with doing nothing for 12 months before they realise you’re trolling them.

”sure boss I’ll get that right to you”

*watches Minder on ITV4*

What level of infrastructure expertise do you reckon Litmanen has to judge that a site that will likely need to serve up to a million tweets per minute with millisecond response times at the peak of the World Cup "isn't exactly the most complex communication apparatus out there"

Yawn.  I've been working like that for most of my life ffs.  Last holiday 2019, and I work bank holidays also.

I'd work Musk under the table, tbh.

C'est la vie

Are you bragging about this?

absolute douche, he’s been hosed here

he’ll end up selling the bare bones tech to MSNBC for about a bil, and having to sell Tesla to pay off his personal guarantees for the debt package

infrastructure teams, faod, are not a dime a dozen with all these tech layoffs, check how many infilled vacancies there are in tech.

musk is over
