Does anyone feel sorry for Johnson?

The way it is unravelling? It wasn't meant to be like this; a few years as PM then retirement earning £2m a year making speeches, writing for newspapers and books.

He just seems really disinterested in the details of his job and just thinks he can get by without following the rules.

Nope. A decent, honest and clean PM would be treated with respect, even in the dying days of the administration. He is none of those things.

I do a little bit. It wasn't BoJo that sexually assaulted someone last week, but BoJo is paying the price for that.

nope

all this “with hindsight…” apology is bullshit - he had precisely all the facts required at the time the decision was made

and he has since lied

No, he’s a khunt. Nearly all of this country’s ills stem from the vain belief that toffs such as him are fit to govern. That’s as true of the working class in Hackney as it is of shire tories. Class obsessed Brits who thrive on feudal values in a world of metropolises need to wake up.

This has been brewing up for decades.

Shame the Labour Party isn’t up to leading the country into the future .

just when i think mayb ur not so bad, u always come up with something utterly prickish and self-evidently wrong like this, u total toolbag

Ami he has pulled so much shit, events happen that means it eventually catches up with him - there are probably a hundred things he has got away with but ultimately some things will unravel though happenstance.

How can he live with himself? Guess, he's just being true to his nature of bluff, attempted baffle and lie all in the pursuit of his own ends. Shameful.

I do not like press bullying. I don’t like press witch hunts or media trials. It’s uncomfortable viewing. I feel sorry for anyone subject to it.

Johnson is a total bully himself. Fvck him. He’s the sort of person who expects you to beg him to shag your sister and wipe his cock on your jacket. He needs punching out and soon.

its not a media trial - it is government and mps saying they will no longer put up with him, the media is just covering it.

No, he had it all. He actually had some huge victories (vaccines/Ukraine etc) but he’s totally been the own architect of his downfall.

no - obviously without knowing all the details i think ultimately i’m on his side as opposed to vin diesel’s, and he’s just been cast as black adam so his career appears to not have been affected

Get this loser a towel. I've never seen someone so wet.

Just think about how many things will come out after he’s gone. We only know as much as we do because Cummings leaked everything. After he’s gone I reckon we’ll hear about the really terrible stuff, the affairs, punch-ups with Carrie, etc.

Well I am fine with that Guy if that’s what it is. I haven’t read the details but very odd if people think he is responsible for the acts of his colleague in a bar or even previous complaints about them.

Are you serious? He is a narcissistic, lying khunt who has done irreparable damage to the country. So, that will be a “no” from me.

Karma is a bitch hey.

I feel pretty good the universe is taking care of him.

It would be pretty disappointing if you could actually go through life lying, cheating and being a terrible person with no moral compass with no comeuppance  - hopefully Carrie also leaves him.

Nor me

And I dont feel sorry for Con MP’s either, they had their chance to get rid and they wimped out.

Cookie is back!

He is a grotesque narcissist, probably on the psychopathic scale.

He will use, and then shit, on literally anyone and everyone.

Sort of do now.

I think there’s an element of the Amber heard/Johnny deep trial going on where he’s now the butt of so many jokes that nothing he says is taken seriously when some of it may actually be correct.

Interesting times we live in!

No - he's a liar who is completely disinterested in actually doing his job and doing anything other than repeating slogans. He has reaped what he has sown in over-promising and under-delivering.

to quote Super Hans "sh1t is as sh1t does".

he deserves it.

"but he’s totally been the own architect of his downfall."

I agree with this.

The problem is he entered office with a breathtaking track record of getting away with doing things his own way (professionally and personally) with no regard for the rules in place.

That works OK if you are being paid to do opinion pieces or whatever, not so great when you suddenly find yourself in a role you have fantasised about forever but which comes with the inconvenience of something like parliamentary procedure.

The pandemic did not help as it pandered to the notion of "emergency! everything goes" which Johnson loved but ultimately his cowboy approach to everything (both professional and personal) came out.

I feel sorry for him in terms of the witch hunt process, apart from that I think he is an unmitigated bully who is literally trying to hang on by the skin of his teeth and is trying to dress that up as a power play which is nothing more than playground bullying whilst he still can.

from a dispassionate perspective there is some pleasurable irony in the idea that one out-of-control sexually incontinent person could unwittingly bring down another out-of-control sexually incontinent person in such a short space of time.

I hope Marina Wheeler is looking on and has a chuckle to herself.

True about Marina Wheeler.  Somehow ironic that, ultimately, it was Boris' character which brought him down.  Not any major policy issue, such as Brexit, or taxes, or Ukraine etc.  Just a tide of venality and lies.

Personally, I find it difficult to dislike Boris - a bluffer, of course, but I can never say I dislike him on a personal level.  I dislike his lack of principles, but he of course is very affable, in an overgrown schoolboy sort of way.

Should only lawyers be entrusted with the top job?  Perhaps it's because Johnson is not a lawyer that the rule of law means FA cubed to him.  Or to any of those other dreadful populists around the world.  Of course, the AG isn't a lawyer either.

The Atlantic has a short, interesting article on him, making a telling comparison with Profumo - worth a read: https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2022/07/the-shameless-b…

I don't think you have to be a lawyer to appreciate the need to obey the law. He's a crook plain and simple.

He appointed a sex offender to a senior position and then lied about knowing he was a sex offender.   This would lead to the resignation  in any organisation anywhere.

Crocodile tears. No pity for this one until he's gone. He's still trying to manipulate the party into keeping him in post until October.

As Matthew Parris points out he hasn't actually resigned as PM so I reckon there's still a chance of the bizarre reality where he stands again is elected as party leader again and continues as PM.

"He just seems really disinterested in the details of his job and just thinks he can get by without following the rules."

Uninterested. Not disinterested. Someone posting on a site primarily for lawyers really should be getting this sort of detail right, particularly when criticising someone else's attention to detail.

I don’t feel sorry for him, and I’ve never supported him or even voted for the Conservatives, but I do think people are over-egging how bad a person he is.

He is a terrible person! Multiple affairs - won’t even admit how many children he has - rules for the little people - absolutely zero thought for anyone other than himself

He managed a couple of things well, but it is the endless lying that irritated me. All politicians lie nearly all of the time, but he kept being caught out such that one can't help but wonder what else has he done, and any words of remorse or apology were utterly devoid of sincerity.

There is no one credible in any party that I would be prepared to vote for currently and so would not vote; it is an absolute shitshow.  The only saving grace is that I am only one person, but I do query how many others feel the same.

The pincher incident proves that completely -  how much thought did he give to the impact on the people working for Chris pincher or the people he groped - zero

Re the OP: probably now only Carrie and Nadine feel sorry for him (and I am not too sure about the latter!).

Paradoxically he's paying the price for loyalty.  Badly let down by his friends (the likes of Paterson) albeit of course they're his choice of friends in the first place.  But he's broken all sorts of rules for their benefit and not one of them stood back and said "actually, it's in the best interests of everyone that I step back", they're all snouts in the trough.

He's had the wrong job.  Should have been Tory party Chairman.  Or even the US President.  That suits him far more; wing it, set a broad strategy, leave the details up to everyone else, boost in speeches, never face a debate or challenge.  Our system is not built for that.
