debt recovery question

I have a question from a not very well-off friend.  They basically obtained a judgment against someone who owed them money for about £24,000.  The problem now is that they need to enforce but can not afford a lawyer and they don’t know the address of the person against whom he judgment was obtained.  They’re prepared to do the paperwork themselves but I’m guessing they might need the help of a process server to find the person... any thoughts - I’m not familiar with this area thanks v much

You can hire a tracing agent/private investigator who will locate the Debtor, they normally work on a "no find, no fee" basis.  Alternatively, you can apply to HM Land Registry (think its called a FOrm PIN) to find out whether the Debtor owns and land or has the benefit of any charge in England and Wales.

And assuming the person dowsnt have land what sort of enforcement order is obtained - is it some kind of attachment to their bank account or something that can be directed at employer - how does it work

Enforcing a UK judgment against someone abroad is very difficult (but not impossible).  A tracing agent/private investigator will be able to trace someone's whereabouts, bank accounts, where they work?  Generally speaking, the more they charge, the better they are

Also call their employer in disguise and ask if they are working there . If they are in the uk , work , and are on the electoral roll it is fairly hard to hide .

I did debt recovery as a trainee and you’ll be amazed what a private investigator can find out for a few hundred quid.  Once they find out where the debtor works you can garnishee their wages.  Also upgrade enforcement to the high court for a few quid as then the bailiffs don’t have the give the debtor notice of their arrival.
