Stay in airport hotel night before. Even though I live in London, I often do this, so no stress about missing flights nor hanging about unnecessarily at airport.
There are loads of routes to Heathrow from Zone 1, I don't think they can block them all. Just divert your taxi to Paddington or a nearby Piccadilly tube station if it looks dodgy on the day.
