Car hire excess waiver insurance

Does anyone actually pay the £20-30 a day or whatever it is that the car hire companies charge? Or does everyone take out third party insurance for £2 a day? I'm struggling to see the downside other than the car hire wanting to put a hold on your card for the excess amount

booked a car through sixt, their own excess waiver would have doubled the price. weird that they think people would go for it.

i guess if you're booking a car for work you might.

I pay £40 a year for this. Single-trip policies aren't likely to be better value.

Possibly not. I've just paid £23 for 8 days cover in spain. Although it was 25% cash back on topcashback.

No-brainer.

Especially when I wrote off a car hitting another one head on on the wrong side of the road near Palma airport.

Went back with it on a low-loader and said "Can I have another one please" knowing my £1,200 would be refunded by Insurance4CarHire

I've used icarhireinsurance.com

I actually had to make a claim on the policy after being charged €250 or thereabouts for pre-existing damage by an Italian car hire company, and they paid up

indeed, they were pretty fair and prompt about it all
