We STILL haven’t actually had the budget statement, and the media has been banging on about it for WEEKS.
It’s almost as if our national media are a cabal of malicebots funded by hostile foreign interests trying to organise a ratfvck takedown on a democratically elected government it fears might not be economically libertarian or socially authoritarian enough for its tech bro + brutal oligarch fascist agenda
It’s the most epic of epic fails.
indeed
fascism eh
It's largely the result of delaying it as long as possible in the hope that a rabbit will pop out of an empty hat.
Yeah lets blame the media (or the tories) or both. Rather than the incompetent baffoons eh.
Same thing defo didnt happen in 2022 for lettuce liz, no siree
She gave a bizarre pre-budget speech on absolutely nothing (apart from hinting at the impending shit storm) which brought up more questions than answers. That has obviously driven the increased coverages, quite clearly.
So like most things, all labours fault.
🤡
Well they do have a lot of crap ideas that they want to trail so not surprising that it is taking a while
I honestly think their policy making goes like this:
McSweeney: I've got this brilliant idea I'm going to announce that will solve the black hole.
Reeves and Starmer: Great.
48 hours later:
McSweeney: I can't understand it the press hate it.
Labour backbenchers: If you'd asked us we'd have told that everyone would hate it.
This is on Labour, first they delayed the budget, then they felt the need to say not say what was going to be in it weeks in advance. Its a recipe for it dominating the news cycle for weeks.
McSweeney is quite plainly a c unt of the first water
I'm not sure how this sh1tshow is the fault of the media or the Tories. Clearly Labour are flailing around and flying kites in the press with various policy ideas to see which one the public hate least. They haven't got a clue what to do. Unfortunately, all of this kite flying just means that each policy area they test jams up another area of the economy while people wait to see if they will introduce a wealth tax/a property tax/road pricing/increased NI or whatever the latest idea is to make us all pay more for less.
No, sorry, you’re all dire apologists, and the media is a bunch of ratfvcking Russian-funded gangsters. If destroyed, still true.
And for some reason they do it all publicly in the press rather than talking to backbenchers and focus groups.
MEATSHIELDS ASSEMBLE
This all because of the stupid unnecessary promise not to raise the main taxes in the last election. I called it at the time. It will probably cost them the next election.
Governments for years have trailed ideas and leaked contents in advance of budgets and Labour are no different. Can’t really blame the media this time when they are fed a daily diet by a government that clearly has no ideas and no idea how to sell things to the party or the country.
Indeed it used to be discussed by the party and some focus groups rather than just being fed to the press so they'd quietly bin the worst ideas.
it's the number of kites they need to fly to fill the budget void which is the problem. Their promises on not raising the main taxes have meant a large number of stupid small kites on fringe issues which has mobilised loads of opponents.
In the last 50 years or so, has there been a budget which has caused outrage across such a wide range of people? I suppose it has been exacerbated by the comments around last year's budget.
How many people on this board support the rumoured tax grabs? If you do, you certainly don't have any form of business acumen and I hope you don't act for companies.
Heh
Usually the budget creeps up and just happens ffs.
But oh no, for this lot it’s speshul
I’ve, officially, had enough of this lot.
She said she wasn’t coming back for more. She lied.
Im really now sure this orgy of flying kites and using the whole nation as a sort of giant focus group is very clever tbh.
I think people get angry about the stuff they hate and remember it whether it finally appears in the budget or not.
I've pretty much decided not to vote for them again based solely on the leaks of outrageous stuff which presumably has at least passed through their brains- even if they finally decide its probably just a bit too insane.
it’s an absolute shitshow and the labour govt should b ashamed of themselves
a lot better than under the tozzas tho
I'm not sure 'lie' is the right word here. I'm sure she believed it at the time. It's more like an incompetent junior lawyer promising they can turn a complex opinion in a day, and then realising that they are actually a twàt.
Although one thing that rankles is how they bang on about working people good, we'll target investment income, blah blah.
Then, when push comes to shove, they come straight back to the same group of working people for another shakedown, every single time. And it's a given that this group of people will get absolutely fùck all in return.
That includes school fee VAT - do they think everyone funds these fees from BOMAD assets? It's just another tax on working parents.
Another kite that failed to catch any breeze:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/11/13/reeves-drops-plans-tax-…
Dropped because they're rightly scared of more rich and internationally mobile people going.
That's objectively the right decision, but it follows that they will once again go after their favourite tax gimps, namely British people with families settled here who don't have the option of jumping ship.
Oh dear - they won't be raising income tax.
Decision taken to placate the backbenchers after the Streeting episode.
All manner of stupid shyte coming in now, which will fail to work, then back again for next year's black hole.
Tax gimps and kulaks
Tbf the only proposal I liked was the 2 up 2 down NI thing which although obviously a breach of the Manifesto could legitimately be argued was trying to abide by its spirit and was avoiding taxing work whilst raising more from passive incomes.
But its notable that how this is playing out it could be used as a distraction from the NI Lie.
Making out they are abiding by the Pledge when they have already smashed it into oblivion when they raised NI by £25bn.
Worse - that rise was not a mere breach of pledge - but it was fairly obvious from the quantum and timing and the manner in which they defended it that they intended to raise Employer NICs all along and the strange Manifesto language was just a cover. But it it did actually say they wouldn’t raise any NI and everyone knows that the economic incidence of Employer NICs falls pretty much fully on wages anyway.
So regardless of what they do here it is very clear to me that the Manifesto Pledge was a lie.
Aren't 'pledges' typically found in civil law jurisdictions?
I suspect this was a 'charge'
They could have promised less and still won a thumping majority. Little did we know all of 18 months ago however quite how inept they would prove to be anyway.
Worse than conservatives - its getting arguable now
waves at TOOD
SO now all the tory dreamers who complained when they thought she was going to raise income tax are complaining she hasn't raised income tax. There's a reason your beloved party will never form a government again m88s
Receipts needed there please. Keep meatshielding tho.
Xennial Worrier Princess is the best name Ive ever seen on here btw.
And Ive been sticking my nose in from time to time for well over 20 years.
Well done.
WAHEY!!!! Tories learned the word “meatshield” when it got pointed out what massive meatshields for atrocities of B Johnson they all were, and now they’ve all got good little chub-ons for it! W@nk hard!
heh it’s hilarious isn’t it
they clearly were all in agony at being called meatshields throughout the tozza years and have been itching 2 try it out, cos they utterly lack the cre7ivity 2 come up with their own fresh gibes
