Black History Month

Has started in the States

Instead of obsessing about slavery, colonialism etc with their self hatred, perhaps our socialist comprehensives could start trying to build up black esteem

Fcuk sake Bernstein, what else are you going to go full khmer rouge on?

Cancel holocaust memorial day?

Take St Patricks off the calendar

Crucify people who make bonfires on guy fawkes?

And Irishman Doug Casey has now waded into the debate

"White liberals are the ones who destroyed black culture by putting huge numbers of them on welfare, and essentially herding them into vertical ghettos in the inner city.

White liberals, while claiming the moral high ground, are the ones who’ve turned the majority of blacks into an underclass, cemented to the bottom of society by the philosophy of Identity Politics, implemented by government programs.'

Can we all please remember that most "black" people are utterly unaffected by this, because they are in Africa and being "black" is just normal.

When "woke" North American liberals start talking about "black" this and "black" that it makes my teeth hurt, because what they really mean is "black inner-city North American" this and "black inner-city North American" that.

"White liberals... are the ones who’ve turned the majority of blacks into an underclass..."

This has now become the right wing conspiracy theory du jour: the 'left' (or 'liberals'  -- right wingers seem to have issues distinguishing between the two notwithstanding the fact they mean completely different things) has fostered a continued reliance on welfare and the state for inner city BAME groups so that those same groups will continue voting for the 'left' as it is they who promise to continue to provide that welfare.

It's a bonkers argument that attempts to:

1. Undermine the idea that welfare is necessarily a good thing in a civilised society;
2. place the blame for social exclusion at the door of the very people attempting to help;
3. the final argument will be that the alternative libertarian view should prevail -- the market is the preferred means of lifting people out of poverty (but, hey, if some people die in the meantime that's definitely a price worth paying).

It's a kneejerk in order to attempt to stymie the civilising influences we're seeing these days with greater focus on the structural issues that mean that certain groups have never and will never succeed.

But, hey, let's go with it -- low tax! no benefits! you've grown up in a system where if you want to succeed you can, so if you don't succeed you're a failure and it's all your fault.

Urban ghettos were in large part created because even in the "tolerant, liberal" north, until fairly late in the 20th century it was legal to place restrictive covenants on property prohibiting sale or renting to black people, who find themselves crowded into small areas and paying MORE in rent than whote people for similar property.
