I have a Versa which I love (when it works I am on my third one - first one died after 6 months, replacement never worked, third one has now been going for 6 months so fingers crossed)
I use it to count lengths and it is reasonably accurate (there are always bits roped off at my pool for lessons etc so I have to guess whether to set it for 26m or 27m or whatever rather than 30)
I think the Ionic is fine too, I just liked the look of the Versa more
Garmin Fenix. It does absolutely everything, great gps, set up for swimming (pool, open water and tri) and has functionality for any sport you might want to take up. The Fenix 5 also has the wrist based hrm (I have an old 3 which doesn't). Battery lasts a good long time.
I've got an Ionic. No idea whether it's any good or not as I haven't tried any others and I've fook all idea about the totality of its functionality. It doesn't seem able to track the fagz though.
I am on my second Garmin Vivoactive. The first one leaked water after about 18 months, but they are so good I bought another one. Apparently if you use the buttons while you are in the water too much, they have a tendency to do this.
Garmin Forerunner 235 is bestist. Better for swim lengths than the fitbit, but you do need to download the poolswim app, which gives you huge data on your swim.
"Those who are really serious about their performance training in running and cycling – and want the full gamut of navigation and music features – shouldn't look further than the Garmin Fenix 5. If you're looking for proper VO2 max, recovery, GPX features and top-notch battery life, it's the best out there.
Those serious about their tracking who don't mind paying top dollar will want to explore the entire Fenix 5"

I have the Versa too and quite like it. I haven't tried it for swimming yet but it's user friendly for other stuff.

Queenie I do have an app for tracking my beer consumption, but that is mainly spotterish behavior and keeping track of what I like.

If this one starts to leak I might try a Fenix next - their build quality is probably better.

problem with garmins is they are undeniably good but really fugly
I used to have a vivosmart band that I loved until I broke and the replacement model was hideous
I then had a Misfit for a bit
I always end up back with a Fitbit though as I really like the app

fair point its very fugly but the GPS is good,
I don't the Versa has built in gps which you really want if you are doing runs or open water swimming. for just the pool and gym its fine though.

the versa can connect to your phone's gps to track runs which seems to work fine as I always take my phone anyway
I note that they've just launched a slightly cheaper Versa lite which no longer tracks swim lengths!

taking your phone on a run is annoying.
taking your phone open water swimming is an excuse for a new phone.

You're not an athlete. You probs hit the gym max twice a week, and you have a pot belly. Give yourself a break.
