bands from back then one should listen to again

THE POLICE

Pearl Jam

Queens of the stone age

The Penguins, the Moonglows, the Orioles, and the Five Satins

For now and ever after

As it was before

Rene and Georgette Magritte and their dog after the war.

Paul Simon, turning 78 this year, has an album out and it is the best thing he has ever done.

i remember being on a ski trip at college when a rumour went round that the lead singer of aqua had died.  there was devastation.

can confirm that club-lets 3 and 4 like "Barbie girl"

Fleetwood Mac

Creedence Clearwater Revival

I also recently took a detour through the Alanis Morrisette back catalogue and it stands up extremely well.

For me Pearl Jam never left so coming back isn't an option

We listened to the Cocteau twins last night. Just lovely

Bam fact 3756514 Mrs B was wearing a Cocteau twins shirt and ridic tight black skinnies dancing to Right Way by Bowie when I first clocked her

While we're on this, the first time I laid eyes on Mrs G, she was drunkenly throwing a glass at a pal of mine for cheating on her.

Gravy went in for the kill that night and hasn't looked back.

Also Gravvo to be a bald middle aged fat hipster just get some Farcap walking boots, turned up blue 511s, a Patagonia cap and some thick towelling plaid jacket.

You'd look lush

I like your style Gravvo. I waited til she was wrecked that night, made a move, spent a week together and then I thought I fixed it and was too scared to call her for 3 years.

Casanova

Heaven or las Vegas mainly because cherry coloured funk is my favourite song.

It's got more filer than other albums though I think but that song just hits me

Different to Graceland. Not looking to be a surprise or a crowd-pleaser. Just his final considered thoughts on music and human beings and love. It sounds as though he did it for himself, not for us.

Yo la Tengo, Pixies, Sonic Youth and The Flaming Lips have all got a recent revival in my listening. Also really really enjoying Boards of Canada tin a way that I didn't when they first came out (not that this really qualifies as 'back in the day').

Now for my controversial choice:

Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Welcome to the Pleasuredome is an absolute masterpiece of an album.

Great shout to Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas or Treasure for me (tho' This Mortal Coil's Song to The Siren is one of my favourite songs ever)

Also - Love not Money and Eden by Everything but the Girl is worth a relisten

Oddly I've recently rediscovered mid seventies Genesis - Trick of the Tail and Duke. Both suprisingly meaty in way that i didn't notice before

I doubt whether many here have ever heard of Barclay James Harvest. Their song Rock 'n' Roll Lady is ok, but the main riff is identical to Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult.

There's another band for you.

Blimey. Barclay James Harvest.

Almost up there with Gentle Giant and The Enid as bands I've not played for in decades (and with good reason not to, to be honest.....)
