I fly lots of other airlines - you transfer Amex points 1-4-1 with Emirates, Ethiad, Virgin lots of others - plus the travel insurance, airport lounge access (Including Centurion lounge coming to T3 this summer) and automatic gold status at a number of hotel chains guaranteeing free upgrades or breakfasts do make it worth it.
(Plus from June the card you get is actually metal - which is cool obv.)
The biggest reason being that the 241 voucher is valid for 2 years rather than 1 year.
As they release reward flights 355 days before departure (at least 2 in club) that makes the longer 241 voucher much more valuable as you are far more likely to be able to use it (assuming you're happy planning holidays a year out).
