Amsterdam suggestions

I'm there for Saturday and have not been there since I was a child so the experience will be a little different. Do any of you have suggestions for sights to see, things to do and things to eat/drink?

Deffo go to the museum with all the Rembrandts in (Reichstag?).  The night watch is one of my fave paintings.

The van gogh museum as well.  Ann Frank's hoos is darkly interesting.

Heh, at least 1 of the people who's corrected me has face palmed.  Not sure which one tho.

Also DO NOT GO to the sex show.  There is a high degree of risk that you get your face mashed into a banana that has been half inserted in a place fruit should not venture (see the story of my m7 dave, supra)

Oh Teccers. You are so unsurprising in your response there. It sounds like the closest you have been to culture recently is the last yogurt you ate.... :p

I would love to go to the 'Dam. Mr D and I have discussed it as one of this year's city break type things. Definitely love a museum, so bring it on. Also, even though I hated it, The Miniaturist has made me want to go even more and I do love a Dutch still life painting.

ha ha Re coke in a museum, a friend and I we did a trip to a-dam, fear and loathing in a-dam it was and we went to the rijksmuseum high as a kite

we then felt observed and thought the security staff would arrest us any moment, we fled the museum, literally ran out of and away from it

Feebs there will be drinking but not so much sunshine along the canals. I plan on sampling some of the finest ales known to humanity.

Won't be the last time as I live a 2.5 hour train ride away and will defo be back in the summer.

What's the church in the private home that was designed to be hidden from the authorities? It was near the red-light district if I remember. Quite impressive--you thought you were in some normal period house but then it opened up to be this fairly sizeable church.

There is a little bakery called ‘to the last crumb’ http://www.delaatstekruimel.nl/

gothe food is amazing..the quiche the crumbles everything... just amazing and if you like jam of any sort buy some of the one they use in their fruit crumbles. It is divine, proper jam rather than the jelly like stuff you get in a supermarket. Lovely fruity rich flavour without being too sweet. Almost has a tang to it

I am quite literally tempted to fly back to Amsterdam for a long weekend just so I can stock up on their raspberry jam. cheeky
