Trainee in Facebook stalking embarrassment
The danger of Facebook stalking became apparent this week, as the sorry tale emerged of one prospective trainee's encounter with a graduate recruitment officer.
Having been charmed by the HR officer's manner at interview, the would-be trainee decided to look her up on Facebook. Unfortunately in doing so he accidentally clicked on a Facebook application entitled "Hug me". To his horror, a note appeared on screen telling him that a message had been sent to the HR officer to tell her she'd been hugged.
The following email exchange ensued:

Dear HR Officer This is a somewhat unusual and embarrassing email for me to have to write, but prior to speaking to you just a moment ago (about qualification certificates) I used Facebook to check that I had the right person in mind when making the phone call. The reason for doing this was that I wanted to ensure that I asked for the same person I spoke to on Friday, and therefore not appear at all incompetent or forgetful.
Unfortunately, however, I mistakenly pressed the 'hug me' button completely accidentally. I have tried everything to remove the track this has left, obviously, but it seems to be impossible from my side. Ideally I would not have to email about this as it is most embarrassing given that you are in the process of making decisions, but I thought I should since I cannot remove the track and I did not want you to think that this was some bizarre attempt at coercion or genuine inappropriateness on my part.
I appreciate this is unusual, but I hope you understand why I felt the need to email you about this straight away. I do hope this will not impact in any way on the decision making process. Many thanks in advance for your understanding, and I can assure you that I would most certainly not repeat this mistake with any clients should I be made an offer!
Yours sincerely Embarrassed would-be trainee

Dear Embarrassed would-be trainee,
That is absolutely no problem whatsoever - please don't worry about it at all... I have to admit your email did make me chuckle a bit though (well needed on the first day back after a bank holiday)!
Kind regards, HR officer
