ROLLONFRIDAY STORY 4TH JULY 2008
DLA Piper lawyers face salary drop
Rumours abound that in an unprecedented move, DLA Piper associates may find themselves earning far less than they had expected.
Sources tell RollOnFriday that the firm has abandoned the traditional form of paying staff according to PQE and banding. Instead lawyers will be given pay increases based on individual performance of up to 8%. There will be no automatic increase in salary just for having had your knees under the desk for another year. And if lawyers haven't performed well, they could get no salary rises at all.
The firm wouldn't go into details, but claimed that the average salary paid to lawyers at each level would be higher than last year's figures.
However, the firm's lawyers are not convinced and are complaining that even reasonable performers will be earning less than they would have done under the old system, and that the firm is sneakily saving itself a stack of cash.
