Anyone had a Dechert assessment centre for a TC? Just wondering what to expect.
Cheers

They roll you in flour and bake you in a moderate oven for about 30 minutes. Then they break off one of your toes and eat it. Apparently if it is juicy and tasty they reckon you are not tough enough to be a City lawyer. If it is dry and crisp then they offer you a training contract.

it began with a lunch with the recruiting partner, hr people, and the other prospective trainees who were interviewing that day. during the lunch we had to talk a little about ourselves to the whole group.
i have heard that for some people it is a breakfast.
after the lunch everyone splits up. there are 4 elements to the day. 2 tests and 2 interviews. there is no set order in which they are given to you. one test was a proof-reading exercise, and the other was advising a client in written form.
one interview is with hr, and the other is with partners.
after that you have a tour of the offices with a current trainee.
all i would say, as obvious as it may sound, is make sure you know your application inside and out. even the most innocuous sentence in your application, make sure you can talk about it if necessary.
oh and if they have invited you for interview, everyone has seen your application - even the trainee who is giving you the tour.

SunshineQueen, if the 'HR Woman' you're referring to is Julie Williams, I hardly think that 'ice queen' is a fair description. I don't know how well you know her, but I did a VS at Dechert a couple of years ago and she was never anything but very helpful and extremely friendly (same goes for Sarah). More importantly, she's very good at her job. I can think of many, many, scarier (and less competent) people in graduate recruitment across the city. I didn't opt for Dechert in the end, but their HR department was certainly not a factor that counted against them!

Julie was heavily pregnant when I went for all my TC stuff there in Sepetember so they have someone new in now, but no idea what she is like - apparently not as "Sunny" as Julie was!!
