There has been an incredible response to the launch of RollOnFriday Community Action, which has attracted over 200 applicants in its first seven days.

The scheme enables lawyers who have been made redundant to continue practising, while at the same time helping their community - and giving them a head start when it comes to finding a new job. RollOnFriday has launched the initiative in partnership with Law Works, the Law Society and 25 leading international law firms.

A spokeswoman for Law Works told RollOnFriday that she was "thrilled" by the response, and also by "the high calibre of the lawyers who have applied - and their enthusiasm". Des Hudson, the Law Society Chief Executive said, "This underlines the commitment to justice and the rule of law that flows so strongly throughout the solicitors profession". "Wow, 200, that's cool" a spokesman for RollOnFriday added.

Some of the applications for RollOnFriday Community Action

RollOnFriday Community Action helps lawyers who have lost their jobs to keep their hand in, by placing them with contact with charities, local community groups and law centres who need legal advisors - and by providing the insurance and training the lawyers need to advise them. The lawyers can do as many or as few hours as they like - and in return they increase their chances of getting a job once firms start hiring again. Allen & Overy, Eversheds, LovellsNabarroTLT, Travers Smith, White & Case and Withers are all offering guaranteed interviews to participants in the scheme, and many other firms have agreed to give extra weighting to candidates who have the scheme on their CV.
