A group of lawyers has bought a local pub in an effort to save it from being closed or, worse, being turned into another Weatherspoons outlet.

It's been reported that five friends, all lawyers, have bought the licence for the Marquess Tavern in Islington. The group raised £175,000 to outbid its competitors for the pub. The lawyers were named as Andrew Thornton, James Potts, Nigel Doughty, Damien Brown and Ben Shaw. However, when RollOnFriday tried to congratulate the team it couldn't find them.

The Marquess Tavern, now a hotbed of legal drinking

According to the Solicitors' Roll the only Andrew Thornton practising in London belongs to Denton Wilde Sapte. But the firm confirmed that whilst its Andrew Thornton wished it was him, he definitely hadn't bought the pub. So who are these mysterious lawyers / publicans? And might they be amenable to the idea of giving RollOnFriday a free pint?

Please would any readers who know use the button below to get in touch.

I had lunch in this establishment today and was very dissapointed with the food. Although the starters were interesting and tasty it ended there. Twice i had to chase up a drinks order. The reply to this was sorry i forgot and out of 5 people dining 4 ordered the rib of beef which none of us could eat. It came out different for everybody some rare some very well done but all impossible to cut and eat but all were incredibly fatty. When this was pointed out to the lady who was seemingly in charge her reply was "Quote Well i`ve sold loads of it. "Unquote. Not the sort of response you would expext in an area with an abundance of eateries and gastro pubs. The bill was £175 not bad if the food would of been edible. Most dissapointing and obviously i or my friends wont be rushing back.
