RollOnFriday launches search for mystery lawyer / publican
10 July 2009
A group of lawyers has bought a local pub in an effort to save it from being closed or, worse, being turned into another Weatherspoons outlet.
It's been reported that five friends, all lawyers, have bought the licence for the Marquess Tavern in Islington. The group raised £175,000 to outbid its competitors for the pub. The lawyers were named as Andrew Thornton, James Potts, Nigel Doughty, Damien Brown and Ben Shaw. However, when RollOnFriday tried to congratulate the team it couldn't find them.

The Marquess Tavern, now a hotbed of legal drinking |
According to the Solicitors' Roll the only Andrew Thornton practising in London belongs to
Denton Wilde Sapte. But the firm confirmed that whilst its Andrew Thornton wished it was him, he definitely hadn't bought the pub. So who are these mysterious lawyers / publicans? And might they be amenable to the idea of giving RollOnFriday a free pint?
