Jones Day refused to let its UK staff work from home during the deadly sub-zero reign of the Beast of the East - but then told its New York office they could stay away when it snowed a bit.

In a horrifying demonstration of bias against Blighty by the firm's Yankee overlords, or that its London management is just tight-arsed, City support staff received an email on 28 February ordering them to travel to the office. A disgusted staffer told ROF, "Jones Day really cares for their staff's safety".

The anticyclone nicknamed the Beast from the East brought snowfall, sub-zero temperatures and hurricane-force gusts to Britain which caused 16 fatalities. But through it all, said the firm, "all Jones Day personnel are expected to work the hours set out in their offer letter", because, "The London office seeks to provide adequate support services cover and client service, even during inclement weather".

But not in New York. Three weeks after temperatures in London dropped to -8°C, New York City experienced a bit of snow and temperatures as 'low' as -0.5°C. It was sufficient for everyone to be sent packing at lunch time.

A source said, "so much for Jones Day being consistent. Only London office are pricks it seems". Jones Day's US-based press office did not respond to a request for comment. Maybe the keyboards were too cold for ums.

I'm sure London staffers were able to keep themselves warm by tossing £50 notes onto their fires when they got home...

No-one who has worked at Jones Day in London will be surprised. Not so much employees. More like chattel.
