A prankster pretending to be Jared Kushner has fooled a Norton Rose Fulbright partner into emailing him legal advice.
Abbe Lowell, a Washington DC-based defence attorney, is representing Trump's son-in-law in the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the US election. This week it emerged that Kushner has been using a private email address to conduct official government business, which presents a potential legal problem if Kushner did not promptly forward the relevant emails to his White House account.
Using the address [email protected], the hoaxer emailed Lowell in a panic asking whether he could delete correspondence "featuring adult content" from his private email. Zeroing in on the pertinent issue, Lowell replied asking whether the smut had been forwarded or received from White House officials. 'Kushner', actually a 39-year-old website designer from Manchester who goes by the moniker 'Sinon_Reborn', answered that it was a mixture, and asked if it could be buried because "it's fairly specialist stuff, half naked women on a trampoline, standing on lego scenes". Lowell replied, "Don't delete it. Don't send to anyone. Let's chat in a bit".
'Kushner' then asked what to do with an email containing a link to a video where "the protagonist of the piece looks exactly like a younger Hillary Clinton".
Reborn, who has pranked numerous public figures via email, told RollOnFriday,"I know for certain I wasn't rumbled until a bit after the Hilary comment". He said Lowell either had "a delayed realisation or, more amusingly, a talk with Jared himself". Cue an arse-covering final email from Lowell to 'Kushner':
Asked how Lowell could protect himself from mischief makers in future, Reborn told RollOnFriday, "it's tricky as you either check the actual email address of each and every email you receive", or add the client to a closed group when you first meet.
