Tim Taylor QC, a Dubai-based partner, has thrown his hat in the ring to be KWM's EUME Senior Partner.

Taylor is an interesting fellow. He used to be Head of Arbitration at the firm back when it was SJ Berwin and people had actually heard of it. He was, briefly and vicariously, a minor celebrity when his son Hugo appeared on the TV programme Made In Chelsea. And he marked KWM taking over SJB by releasing a film of him surfing in his robes.

The Senior Partner position became vacant after incumbent Stephen Kon stepped down last month, just half way through his term. He follows London Managing Partner William Boss, who quit his role earlier this year after just nine months. Prior to that the firm had also lost its COO, HR Director and Finance Director, and had no Head of Comms. Over the last few months it has booted out two dozen partners and asked those who remain to hand over £14m to help support the firm. Taylor will clearly have a job on his hands if he gets the role.

Taylor is going head to head with Frankfurt partner Dr Michael Cziesla. The firm's Far Eastern paymasters may well want a sensible German, but legacy SJB partners may prefer a flamboyant Q.C. who'll have their back and has been at the firm for nearly 30 years.

A spokeswoman for the firm confirmed that the result would be announced next week, probably on Wednesday.
