In an unusual development, two trainees at BLP have quit the firm before finishing their training contracts, one of them to defect to another firm.

RollOnFriday understands that one second seat trainee is abandoning law altogether to become a teacher. More controversially, a first seat trainee is leaving to join another firm.

He may have been concerned about securing a job at the end of his training contract, as BLP has just unveiled the worst Spring 2015 retention rate of any major firm so far by keeping on just 70% of its trainees. Of the 20 trainees in the intake, one left before qualification, three were not offered jobs and two turned down their offers.



The result is the latest in a weak run for the firm, which last Autumn retained 17 out of 24 trainees (71%) and last Spring retained just 14 out of 23 trainees (61%).

Training principal Anthony Lennox said, “Our aim is to offer as many training contracts as possible highlighting our commitment to recruiting the best talent in the market”.
