Insiders have told RollOnFriday that Lyons Davidson is making around 80 staff redundant.

RollOnFriday's sources say that the entire Claimant Division in Solihull is for the chop, with further cuts likely in London. However the firm has refused to comment on the job losses. But it booted out a raft of staff back in February, when a number of employees in Bristol and the entire Cardiff Employment Department were shown the door. If one round of redundancies is unfortunate, two inside nine months look remarkably like carelessness.

The job losses are despite the firm recently announcing a joint venture with the AA, under which LD will handle the personal injury work for AA customers from next month. Which is all jolly good of course, but may not end up being as lucrative as Lyons Davidson might have hoped. The Co-operative Legal Service has recently abandoned plans to train up large numbers of lawyers to do similar work in favour of employing rafts of cheap paralegals.

"And while you're at it, I've also been involved in an accident that wasn't my fault"

The firm refused to comment.

I feel so bad for these people. That's what happens when management only want to pile it high and sell it cheap and your hired so support one particular contract. I hope these people find something else.

They should put them all on the AA contract - Saga and AA are telling us that their new legal services are going to offer a much better, cheaper and more accessible service than lawyers can offer. Surely they need experienced staff to deliver on their promises?

I think there will be more redundancies judging by the fact so many partners are openly looking for other jobs on LinkedIn, and appear to have refused to get any LD shares when it became a company last year . . .Good luck to everyone finding new jobs.

The whole Claimant department of LD Solihull will be closed by spring 2014 with most of the staff seeming to have already gone. It seems that inexperienced college graduates are preferred to knowledgable and experienced staff. LD will make more money this way at the expense of their clients.
It is indeed a shame for the staff who are being made redundant there, many of whom have been there for many years.
LD are quite happy to be in the headlines when their new business is announced, but keen to keep the redundancy details behind closed doors.
Good luck to all of those poor people that have been affected - Merry Christmas indeed!
