A member of staff at the Crown Prosecution Service has been charged with claiming more than £1m in fictitious taxi expenses.

Lisa Joanne Burrows, a finance manager in CPS West Midlands, has been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud. One of her colleagues, an unnamed administrative officer, is facing the same accusation but has yet to be charged.

The pair are alleged to have submitted false claims for witness care taxi services to the tune of more than £1m. That's an awful lot of taxis. Cab company Addison Lee told RollOnFriday that this would pay for 344,827 miles – 13.7 times around the world, or to the moon and half way back*. Presumably their colleagues were too busy requesting statements from dogs to notice.

    Keep the change

Malcolm McHaffie, deputy head of special crime for the CPS, said that he had "authorised West Midlands Police to charge these two individuals, and Lisa Burrows has now been charged".

*But not south of the river. At this time of night? And come back into town empty? You're having a laugh.
