CMS Cameron McKenna has packed in its relationship with BPP, and will be moving its LPC students to the College of Law to create a new "International LPC". And The University of Wales has launched a Law and Mandarin degree.

Camerons' move from BPP to the CoL would not be exciting in itself, but the International LPC - which will shortly be offered to all CoL students - sounds like an interesting offering in the borderless world of law. And no doubt the CoL's new owner Montagu Private Equity will be happy about the additional revenue. A spokesman for the firm said "this will really make a difference to our trainees as it will give them the necessary European context for the work that we do with our European colleagues on behalf of our clients". Although whether Camerons can really be considered more international than, say the Magic Circle firms (which seem pretty happy with the bog-standard LPC), is yet to be confirmed. Vive la différence.

Confucius say come to Bangor, where there's always a welcome in my valley

Further afield, this week Bangor University launched the UK's first law and Mandarin degree. The Welsh university's school of law is setting up a Confucius Institute, a body which exists to encourage UK-Sino understanding. Students will benefit from a variety of courses on Chinese law, and will even get the chance to spend a year abroad at one of the many firms now practising in the region. Let's just hope they don't have to swear the forelock-tugging oath of loyalty to the communist party or get arrested for "provoking quarrels".
