Six partners have just resigned from HBJ Gateley Wareing's Glasgow office. A seventh has jumped ship in Edinburgh. That's an awful lot of unhappy partners.

It's not known why the partners are leaving in such droves: the firm will only say that it's for "a variety of reasons". It means that the Glasgow office now only has two partners left to hold the fort.

    An unhappy Scotsman yesterday

Gateleys' Glasgow office has hardly been a stranger to controversy. In 2007 it was raided by police, and two partners were charged in connection with the theft of a £30million da Vinci. Both were eventually acquitted of what is still the UK's biggest art theft.

Gateleys has desperately tried to put a positive gloss on the collapse of its office, pointing out that a partner recently joined them from McGrigors and "we will be announcing a range of new senior hires in the near future, including two new partners in Glasgow". Who presumably haven't spent more than a year suing the firm...
