A post-work disagreement between an associate and a trainee from Pinsent Masons resulted in an overnight hospital stay for the trainee and ABH charges for the associate.

The details are still murky but it appears that a drinking session in March turned very nasty, culminating in a 2PQE associate punching a trainee. Whilst it is unclear how and why the argument started, what is clear is that the trainee came off very badly. He was knocked unconscious and hospitalised for two days.

Following the event both employees faced a disciplinary investigation. A spokesman for Pinsent Masons said that the trainee was allowed to remain at the firm and is completing his training contract, but the associate decided to leave before the conclusion of the investigation. He may have escaped any disciplinary action from the firm, but he's now been charged by the police with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will face trial later this month.

RollOnFriday attempted to contact the associate for comment but was unable to do so. We can confirm, however, that he has pleaded not guilty to the ABH charge.

It's rumoured that he is shortly to join Berwin Leighton Paisner, although a spokesman for the firm refused to comment on this. But if so, let's hope they keep him away from any trainee bashes.
