And it's a three-way race to replace current Senior Partner David Cheyne. Global banking head Robert Elliott and litigation partner John Turnbull were the first to throw their hats into the ring, but they will now be squaring up to the firm's European Managing Partner, Antwerp-based Jean-Pierre Blumberg.
So who stands out in this illustrious line-up? Well, given that the firm has never plumped for a non-London overlord, Blumberg may struggle. Plus, according to one Linklaters insider, "no one knows who the hell Jean-Pierre Blumberg is" - which may not help. Elliott's already had one crack at the role, losing out to Cheyne in 2006, meaning Turnbull is probably favourite for the role, but there's still all to play for with elections set for next month.
