Ex Freehills lawyer pens a book...
04 May 2012
Former Freehills lawyer Ralph Graydon has written a novel about his experiences as an expat lawyer in London. Happily, it's a far cry from the writings of RollOnFriday's
all-time favourite expat lawyer Deidre Dare.
Graydon's debut novel,
Page Three: A very London Story, is described on
Amazon as a "
fast-paced, familiar and laugh-out-loud funny" book that "
threatens to ruin Anglo-Australian relations forever". Sounds good.
The book centres on Sydney lawyer, Paul Fletcher, who moves to London, together with his publicist wife, to try to make it as a writer. But, inevitably, it all goes wrong as Fletcher's wife betrays him, his life falls apart and he descends into "
an orgy of drinking and television watching". Don't you hate it when that happens?

Life as an aspiring writer
|
Despite having moved to London with his publicist wife to further his dreams of a writing career, Graydon claims the book is not based on his own life. He told
Lawyers Weekly "
Although the wife in the novel is a vegetarian and works in publishing - much like my own - none of the characters are identically based on people I know". If you're keen to read more, and unconcerned about Anglo-Australian relations, you can snap up a copy now on Amazon for the princely sum of $5.12.
Freehills has form for inspiring literary offerings. This time last year, the world
clapped its collective hands in joy at the publication of
Freehills - a history of Australia's first national law firm, billed as
a crazy ride through the firm's tax bills and name changes. It failed to trouble the best-seller lists.
