That seems to be the Tory manifesto for this election.

Opposition and debate and any other signs of parliament functioning as it should are characterised as sabotage or political game-playing. May's dream is of a parliament in which everyone agrees wtih everything because (according to her) whilst there is "unity" outside of parliament (there is not), there is dissent and disagreement within.

If parliament was in single accord on everything the Prime Minister said that would surely be a sign that it had been taken over by a totalitarian yet that seems to be what Theresa May aspires to.

Didn't think this would happen in my lifetime m7s, but the fascists are coming back.

Don't let them win otherwise sooner or later they will come for you, and there will be no-one left to speak out for you.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I think the Tories have been pretty keen to end democracy for decades. Probably ever since the rise of the Labour Party.

It's the whole "the best argument against democracy is speaking to the average member of the electorate" thing.

They remain convinced that "noblesse oblige" and giving the poor and repressed just enough hope while squeezing them for every last penny is the way forward.

Unfortunately, that stopped working with mechanisation and the end of the Empire.

They can't go back to being Champagne Socialists as conspicuous capitalism is very frowned on. Prosecco will be off the menu too. Surely no-one wants to be a Cremant de Bourgogne Socialist?

Was Cameron holding 3 referendums and one election, and May calling an election within less than 12 months (1) of becoming PM part of the Tory strategy to end democracy?

(1) Not something Callaghan or Brown saw the need to do.

We all know it is the remain side who have been trying to undermine the value of democracy because they don't like the results. Apparently people are too stupid to vote, too old to vote, too racist to vote. Just because you lose doesn't mean it wasn't democratic.

The Gewürztraminer Socialists only like democracy when they win. Whenever the plebs vote for the 'wrong' thing democracy suddenly becomes as unfashionable as, well, sparkling wine from Italy for example.....

Of course we shouldn't end democracy. But elected politicians should stop worrying so much about what the people want and just get on with doing what is good for the people.

Point of order on your point of order. 3 Dux does drink Bule Nun, but only in private. You are the reverse. You drink Malbec privately, but Blue Nun in public.

This is in keeping with your "I am a woman of the people, even though I despise them" persona.
