Being German she probably reminds him of his dad and that sets off his daddy issues

I think there's a chance he didn't hear what she was saying, particularly given he shook her hand subsequently.

The press needs to be careful not to get hysterical about everything- they should be directing their attention to the important issues

Being German she probably would have agreed to piss in his face if he'd played his cards right

I watched the video before making the comment. To me it just looks like he's not registering what she's saying. It's not the first time I've seen footage of him seeming to not quite hear things correctly either, I just can't think of what the other instance was.

There are photos of him shaking her hand on arrival and at the podium (which I think was after). Additionally, they are both sitting there saying how well the meeting went. The only reason I can think of for him deliberately not shaking in that moment was to stick one to the press for previously reporting critically on his handshakes with Trudeau and Shinzo Abe, which is a possibility given how petty he is.

Anyway, my point is that the press needs to stay focussed on the important issues, not the ones that make good clickbait.

I can't believe he didn't hear something- in which case he'd have asked her to repeat. He was clearly agitated and, I think ignored her for some reason. He's thin skinned, vindictive, and petty - the fact that he's commander in chief of the most powerful military force on the planet gives me heebie jeebies.

his line about having something in common with merkel was quite funny. even though he probably doesn't.

agree with the click bait point and focus on what's important. Doubt Merkel was terribly bothered by it given her expression after that.

It could also be he thought he should play this cool given last time (with Trudeau) there was a suggestion that at one point Trudeau gave him the cold on the hand shake.

Did you see the look on her face after his "something in common" comment?!

don't think it suited either of them to be seen to be other than businesslike.
