I miss the comparatively beige, sterile politics of that era. But not him. He should rightly go down in history as the worst PM ever (insert inevitable 3 Ducks comment about some PM from the 18th C being worse because of his policies in relation Prussia) .

And it still drives me insane that the H of C gave him a standing ovation when he departed. For WHAT?????? He belongs in a giant Wicker Man. But with the chickens above him so that they all sh1t on him when they set fire to it.

Surely by any measure Brown was the worst PM in history? (I'm excluding Lord North).

He managed to be both unpleasant *and* incompetent, a unique double in the annals of the Premiership.

Brown was too short-lived to be the worst. To be the worst requires a sustained period of incompetence.

Of all the post-war PMs to have served at least a full term as PM Cameron was hands down the worst. By several lengths and then some.

I didn't mind Cameron either and (pre Corbyn) I am a Labour supporter. Diff level of competence to Mayhem, but of course history is always going to have him close to the bottom of the list because of the EU referendum.

Certainly he was complacent on that and didn't negotiate all that well with the EU, but really he was probably unlucky as well to be the PM when the pass the parcel game in terms of will we, won't we, remain as EU members blew up in his face. I don't think he could have avoided the referendum either.

I suspect Brown, like Major, will be treated a little more kindly by history than he was at the time, given the steps taken to save the banks/financial system in 2008 (though of course you can very much argue he was a big part of the problem, he was also a big part of the solution along with Darling who did a great job).

Post WW2 I think the general view would be Eden is still the worst UK PM tho.

the worst were Heath and Rosebery.

Cam was good as PM in Coalition with Lib Dems, not so good in Coalition with the mainstream of his own Party.

Why has this not had more publicity? Even if 400oz bars aren't bought by the man in the street

http://silverdoctors.blogspot.hk/2012/03/tungsten-filled-1-kilo-gold-bar.html

How can you check?

Perhaps Gordon found out. And that's why he sold the gold.

Interesting comment here too on GLD EFT ensuring no one need ever know

Cameron was a moron, simply the worst PM ever until May. I find it quite difficult to remember the contemptible little pollock being PM at all, tbh. Anyone who voted for him should apologise.

As for Brown, history will judge him kindly, as it will .

Selling the gold reserves was the right thing to do. Strategically it makes no sense to have loads of the national wealth tied up in a single volatile commodity like that. That the price has since seesawed wildly (yes, sometimes upwards) proves the point.

He called a bigot a bigot because she was a bigot.

He supported the Iraq war because the Iraq war was just.

He saved the world from the financial crisis, and the funniest thing about this popular and usually jocular assertion is that he really actually did.
