More odds and ends you might have missed this week, scooped up from the legal blogosphere
Fed up of law? Some ideas for alternatives.......
A Norfolk lawyer has jacked in his £150k job running his own law firm to clean ovens. Apparently scrubbing the melted cheese and solidified fat from the ovens of others is less stressful. Peter Webb claims that he gets "
real job satisfaction" from cleaning ovens, according to a
report in the Daily Mail. And he is managing to trouser £63 an hour for his work, which is not too shabby at all.....
Peter Webb - happier in his work
Meanwhile, ex-Freshfields lawyer Anthony Ponsford is set to rake in £1m this year after setting up a business selling
random junk quality goods online. Fed up with slaving away at Freshfields on a mere £55K, Ponsford quit in 2003 and started selling camera and memory cards from his bedroom, according to the
Daily Record. He then branched out into office furniture, cat scratching posts and gazebos and selling them online. And clearly he's doing really rather well from it all.
Hooters alleged anti-fat policy
A Michegan judge has ruled that Hooters can be sued for weight discrimination under the state's civil rights act, according to a Wall Street Journal
blog. One of the plaintiffs was apparently told to get herself down to the gym so she could shape up for her Hooters outfit - which she claims comes in sizes small, extra-small or, er, extra-extra-small. She alleges that she was put on weight probation by the company and is now seeking over $25,000 in compensation.

Ladies, maybe think twice about eating that cake
Escaping law school
And finally, one man who definitely didn't want to go to law school attempted to commit a felony to ensure that he could never go. After entering a store, Jospeh Velardo calmly proceeded to pilfer merchandise from an office supply store. He then requested that management contact the police. The flawless plan was somewhat scuppered however, when it emerged that Velardo had swiped merchandise worth only $276.88, below the $300 felony threshold. Still, his chances to being forced into law school are probably fairly slim.
